Picture books that read themselves aloud.

Story Beaver is a read-aloud story app for young children. Every word can be tapped to hear it, every page is narrated gently, and every story keeps working when the wifi does not.

Free stories to start. Coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

How it works

Built for the child holding the tablet.

Three things do most of the work: words that answer when they are touched, narration that keeps its place, and stories that never stop for a loading screen.

Tap any word

Touching a word says it out loud and, for the words a book is teaching, explains what it means. Children explore at their own pace instead of waiting for an adult.

Read aloud, gently

Narration plays with the page, so a child can follow along by ear, read alone, or switch modes whenever they want. Nothing has to be set up first.

Works on the road

A book that has been opened or downloaded keeps its pages and its voice with no connection at all — on a plane, in a car, or anywhere the signal gives up.

The shelf

Short stories with something to say.

Every title is an original picture book built for a single sitting, with a virtue at its centre and about eight to ten leaves of reading.

A children’s app that behaves like one.

The audience is four years old, so the defaults have to be the safe ones. Story Beaver is designed around what it does not do.

Questions

The things parents ask first.

What ages is Story Beaver for?

The shelf is written for children roughly four to seven years old. Each book carries its own age band, from 4–6 for the earliest titles to 5–7 for the longer ones.

Does Story Beaver work without an internet connection?

Yes. Once a book has been opened or downloaded, it stays readable offline, including its narration. Downloaded books are verified before they are offered for offline reading.

Do children need an account?

No. Children can read every bundled story without an account. Sign-in, purchases and account deletion are adult surfaces that sit behind a parental gate.

Does Story Beaver show advertising?

No. There is no advertising inside the app and no ad network is used to show ads to children. The app is built to collect no personal data from children.

Which devices are supported?

Story Beaver is built for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets. It is in final preparation for release on the App Store and Google Play.
